As a group of 3rd and 4th year college students in various majors, we all feel a solidarity, amongst ourselves and most of our peers, in the fact that we 1- don’t know what we want to do for the rest of our lives, and 2- need experience in order to ‘figure it out’.
In the US there is a strong push to get kids through college, only for them to be faced with a total lack of guidance on what to do afterwards. Unfortunately, there is a disconnect between school systems and the workforce. Fresh college grads still require significant training and guidance in order to significantly impact and flourish at their new companies. However, many grads do not have the luxury of waiting to find, or the knowledge on how to choose a job that will supply this.
With our program we want to increase the student’s Return on Investment of their college degree, in both time and money. What good is a degree in which you have invested four years of your life, only to spend another four just gaining your footing in the workforce?
We are not just creating business women, we are creating leaders. Women who will go on to excel in their chosen industries, and hopefully one day share their skills and pass on their confidence to the next generation, just as they had experienced as a member of AcknowledgeHer.
